Penn State Coach resigns

Legendary coach Joe Paterno will resign at the end of the season. Paterno is resigning because he failed to do all that he do could about an allegation of child sex abuse against a former assistant. His former defensive coordinator Sandusky, was charged over the weekend with 40 criminal counts of molesting eight boys between 1994 and 2009 through his charitable foundation, The Second Mile. Paterno allegedly was told by other players about some incidents regarding Sandusky. Paterno did report it but didn't do much more.

Penn State president Graham Spanier will also either resign or be voted out by the collegiate board.

Said Paterno in a statement, "That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can."

Paterno is going to coach Penn State this upcoming Saturday against 19th ranked Nebraska. This will be the Nittany Lion's last home game of the season. This will also be Joe Paterno's last home game as the coach of Penn State.

Although Paterno says he will resign at the end of the season the schools board of trustees might fire him before that happens.

This is a sad ending to a historic career for Joe Paterno. His 409 wins are the most in college football history. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Penn State in 1950 before eventually taking the head coach position in 1966. He has remained the coach since then. Every season fans expect "Joe Pa" to be on the sidelines every year for Penn State. Unfortunately that is about to end. Paterno is leaving football with a tarnished legacy because of the scandal. Hopefully this doesn't take away from all what he accomplished at Penn State.
