For the past six games, the Longhorns have had their ups and downs, problems and solutions. Starting with the a perfect record of 4-0 with wins over a decent BYU team with a come-from-behind-win and UCLA, a team who upset them last season, the longhorns lost two important games to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
The troubles don't just stop there for Texas, the quarterback situation has been escalating. The competition between David Ash and Case McCoy has gotten tight. So far, the coaching staff has been going with David Ash feeling that his mobility can make plays for the Longhorns, but McCoy makes better decisions. Personally I think that Case McCoy should get the starting job. Though he needs to work on the fumbles that he had verses Oklahoma, the main people to blame for that are his offensive linemen, who need to protect their quarterbacks against the rush. Also McCoy has a better quarterback rating with 104.6 verses Ash's 67.2. McCoy has guided the horns to two convincing victories against BYU and UCLA but Ash has led the team to two tough losses.
The main thing that Texas needs right now is a win. And a easy win over Kansas just might do that. Kansas is most arguably the worst team in the Big 12 and I'm sure that Texas will bludgeon Kansas when they play them. The problem isn't Kansas, it is the schedule after Kansas. Texas will have to play against Texas Tech, Kansas, State, Texas A&M and Baylor. This will be a tough second half of the season, but if Texas really solves their problems at quarterback, there will be a winning season.
My pick for the Longhorn's record: 8-4

McCoy might just be the solution to the quarterback problems.
