Gilbert Leaving Texas

Last week Garrett Gilbert declared that he was transferring to another school and will no longer play for Texas. The former Lake Travis Cavalier led his team to multiple state titles, was a Gatorade High School Player of the Year, and a five star recruit. When he committed to Texas there was a lot of anticipation because he was the quarterback of the future. He only increased expectations when he played in the national championship two seasons ago when he lead Texas to within three points of the Crimson Tide as a freshman. But when he took the job at quarterback last season, he failed to meet those high expectations, throwing seventeen interceptions compared to his ten touchdowns, and handing Texas their first losing season in thirteen years.
Given a second chance this season as he beat David Ash and Case McCoy for the starting job, he lost his starting job when he went zero for two passing and two interceptions in the game verses BYU. After the BYU game he underwent surgery and contemplated about leaving Texas in order for a fresh start. He, in the end, elected to transfer. Gilbert left this statement, "it is in my best interest to transfer. I can't thank all of my teammates and everyone at Texas enough for all of their support, but I just think I'm at a point in my life where I need a fresh start."
Gilbert, sadly, will not be missed by many Texas fans, but to him I offer my best of luck.

  1. Hi Michael. I know we are supposed to comment on the blogs tomorrow in class, but I decided to do it now. I like the post, the quote was really cool, but I think you should have cropped the picture to just Gilbert.
