Last night Coach K became the winningest head coach in Division 1 Mens college basketball. His number 6 Duke Blue Devils beat the Michigan State Spartans 74-69. This win put him ahead of his mentor Bob Knight who had 902 wins in his career.
While Bob Knight, former Texas Tech head coach was the head coach at Army Coach K was an assistant to him. That is were Coach K started his coaching career. Now Coach K has surpassed his mentor in the most wins ever by a head coach.
In this game Bob Knight was one of the commentators for ESPN at the broad cast table. After the game ended Coach K walked over to the table and hugged Knight. Coach K was in tears after the game, and while hugging Bob Knight.
While they were embracing Coach K said, "I just told Coach I love him. I wouldn't be in this position without him. It's a moment shared. I know he's very proud, and I'm very proud to have been somebody who's worked under him and studied him and tried to be like him."
Coach K is one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time. Not only is he the winningest coach of all time but he has four national championships in the years, 1991, 1992, 2001, and 2010.
Now it's time to start the Coach K to 1K campaign.

ReplyDeleteGood article, Krzyzewski is pretty hard to spell. It's also weirdly pronounced (she-shev-ski).
